Point Of View: Luc Dubois

There are very few people that have experienced Rome in their life time, when you think of how many people live now on this planet. One could say the ones who do are lucky, others may say it’s because of the choice that one makes. A North American born from french descent with a mix of Northern American Native roots. I am a result of conquest, adventure and symbiotic lifestyle with nature, mercantile objectives, nomadic lifestyle, adaptability, discovery, religion, expansion, love, solidarity and Romain influence.

I have been to Rome before and this is a return for me. I am going back as a fervent believer that the eternal city will provide me the proper settings to undertake my most ambitious and complete art project to this date.

I am proud to go back to Rome as a student again; one can only learn from the experiences that enriches his journey and look forward to a continuing education with inspiring peers and professors. I look forward to be challenged, inspired, and absorbed by Rome.

During my period in Rome, I wish to make the definite drawings, plans and paintings of a monumental sculpture that I have been slowly assembling in my soul for the past 12 years. Rome is where I want the layout (plans, drawings, paintings) of this sculpture to take place.

My quest to be in touch with the environment that resonates at this point, with what has been evolving in terms of my creative energy is now possible.  I could not have been happier to participate in this program finding myself in Rome with its urban planning, public spaces and opened-air public art. It’s lighting, bridges, aqueducts and great engineered buildings that withstand the passage of time.

The Rome Art Program is the best thing that I could have hoped for in order to make the past, the present and the future come to a stand still at this point in time in my creative process. An equilibrium that I find necessary to accomplish the work ahead.

I am looking forward to meet the group, the teachers and dedicate myself to the atmosphere of Rome. I cannot wait to see the restoration of the Trevi fountain and see how they have undertaken their work through technology, scaffoldings and craftsmanship.

I am looking forward in getting lost in the multitude of small tiny streets, stones walls and bright reflecting surfaces; crossing bridges and attending the outside ateliers. I am excited about being able to take the time to draw, paint and commit myself to my objective with the proper environment.

EVEIL is my piece for the Rome Art Program. AWAKENING will be in my suitcase along with a great desire to meet my peers and teachers live a full experience.
