ARTIST RESIDENCY in ROME Italy
“The Studio is the Street”
This is an Artist’s Residency unlike any other. It’s in Rome, Italy – the Eternal City. The Studio is the Street! You’ll work in the heart of Rome, on the streets & in the parks, drawing & painting from observation & perception, where abstract & figurative ideas merge.
In this city, the ruins of the Roman Empire offer endless sites of interest and co-exist within the bustle of a modern capital city. You’ll return to your home studio with endless ideas inspired by the powerful expressions of Italy’s glorious past in Art & Architecture. Rome is also the center for travel within Italy and you’ll find fast transport links to sites such as Pompeii & Florence.
Housing
Your private apartment is located in Central Rome & your neighbors are Italian so you’ll quickly become immersed in Italian life & culture. Our well-appointed apartments are spacious & bright, with high ceilings. Each apartment includes living room, fully equipped kitchen, bathroom & bedroom, with twice-weekly housekeeping, with access to wifi.
Resident apartments are situated close to the subway, street markets and numerous restaurants (meals are not included in your residency.) Guests can also be housed in nearby Hotels & B&B’s, at the resident’s own expense.

- Visits to the open-air Opera at Baths of Caracalla, Rome.
- Visits to the American, British, French & Spanish Academies.
- Wine tasting events.
- Access to our Visiting Artist & Visiting Faculty lecture program.
- A Rooftop dinner overlooking Rome.
Residency Deadline: January 12, 2020
You will receive notification of the status of your residency application on January 16th.

- Admission is based on portfolio review. Upload 6 images here from your portfolio demonstrating your artistic practice. (images submitted as JPEG files* smaller than 1mb file size)
We have 2-week sessions in Summer 2020
May 31 (arrive May 31, depart June 13)
June 16 (arrive June 16, depart June 30)
*Residences can also be scheduled for 4 weeks in June if this meets your needs. The 4 week residency deadline is January 12, 2020. For more details, please reach out to the Program Manager at info@romeartprogram.org
Residency Fee
2-week residency: $4290
If your application is successful, a $500 Deposit is required by January 22, 2020 (Non-refundable) and the remaining balance of residency fees is due by February 22, 2020.
