Marcus Escribano (RAP 2018) is an artist based in Danbury, Connecticut – USA, where photography was the gateway that lead him to become the artist he is today. He studied with RAP in June and July 2018 and earned his B.F.A. in Photography from Western Connecticut State University.
RomeArtProgram: How did your time with RAP influence your work?
Marcus: To say the RAP influenced my work is an understatement. Not only did it influence the work, but it also changed my whole style. My time with RAP forced me to see rather than just look. I was able to better understand that photography and painting are more alike than different. The need for composition, content, manipulating the paint, and how you perceive reality in order to create an image.
RAP: What was your favorite place in Rome and why?
Marcus: My favorite place in Rome was definitely the Piazza di Spagna. Walking up the Spanish Steps and being able to see a sea of different people and cultures from up top. It was like no other.
RAP: What are you working on now? What are your hopes for the future?
Marcus: My most recent works have been a few paintings which I did digitally but I’m currently waiting on a telescope so I can start doing Astro photography. I hope to get more in tune with documenting what inspired master artists way before our time to personify the stars and planets in their works.
RAP: What has been your biggest art success since studying in Rome?
Marcus: Since studying in Rome I’d say my biggest art success (to me) would be completing and exhibiting my senior thesis titled “Modern Classics,” which was heavily inspired by Caravaggio after learning about him in Rome.
RAP: What is your advice for future RAP students?
Marcus: To the future RAP students, take it ALL in. Whether you’re a painter, photographer, sculptor; it doesn’t matter. It will change you for the better.
