LYANE---Okk

From the 2014 RomeArtProgram has selected Layne Bourgoyne Alumna to contribute to “Throwback Thursday”, including her memories from that time:

–>Layne Bourgoyne : “The Rome Art Program, under the artistic direction of Carole Robb, attracts students from around the globe to learn and experience the deepest mysteries of Rome. Upon completing my second degree with a double major in Studio Art and Music Composition at The City College of New York (CCNY), I was ready for a challenge. Armed with these newfound skills, it seemed as if the doors of heaven had opened wider, and I was riding on Angels’ wings. My art was developing, and my mind was expanding. Suddenly I was able to take this unbound energy and translate it into art. My brushstrokes swept across the page with fluidity, dispersing the bittersweet aroma of the city’s beauty in contrast with the tragic ruins of her history. Viewing the paintings of the Masters, the Roman architecture, and the massive, larger-than-life grandiose sculptures expanded the vision of my own artistry. During our Friday art history lectures, we walked through the Roman churches viewing Caravaggio’s paintings. We enjoyed drawing and painting en plein air with the illuminating colors of a setting sun, replaced by soft moonlight immersed in the Italian landscape. The essence of Rome lives within me. She gives rise to the flow of ideas, propelling them into a converging whirlwind of creativity. I immersed myself in the architectural divinity of Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel, moving me to paint larger and bolder. It inspired a spiritual journey in mixed-media using photography, ink, oil, and watercolor, reflecting my expression of a multifaceted world. Embraced by the love and compassion of her people, the energy of Rome endures within me. Together, with the richness and influence of culture, and the everlasting memories of winding cobblestone streets…Rome will forever direct the movement of my brush upon canvas.
Under the influence of Roman culture, I returned to the States and began exhibiting in the New York City and Williamsburg, Brooklyn galleries”.
Layne Bourgoyne was present in various exhibitions, painting and photography:
