Alumni Spotlight:

Skyler Henry

Skyler Henry is a full-time B.F.A. student and artist at Howard University who draws inspiration from peers, elders, friends, and family. Her work explores self-awareness and the complexities of the perception of self and surrounding environments.

How did your time with RAP influence your work?

RAP taught me to let go of perfectionism in my work. I am able to approach creating artwork in a looser manner, allowing me to be freer and more expressive.

What was your favorite place in Rome and why?

My favorite place in Rome was Museo Pietro Canonica because it was smaller than other museums we had visited, much more intimate, and filled with the most exquisitely sculpted busts of beautiful people.

What are you working on now? What are your hopes for the future?

Right now, I am working on graduating from Howard University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. In the future, I hope to visit Rome again, this time as an exhibitor.

What has been your biggest art success since studying in Rome?

My biggest art success since studying in Rome has been creating a visual diary dedicated explicitly to how I am feeling for the day.

What is your advice for future RAP students?

Allow yourself to be taught and be adaptable to change.
