Alumni Spotlight:

Samuel Ervin

Samuel Ervin (RAP 2024) is a junior at Appalachian State University, majoring in Studio Art with a concentration in Drawing and Painting. He enjoys learning to work with different mediums and looks forward to what the future holds.

How did your time with RAP influence your work?

RAP allowed me to hone my drawing from life skills and helped to find my artist voice.

What was your favorite place in Rome and why?

My favorite places in Rome happen to be all of the different churches we visited. Every time I would enter one of them, I was taken back by the amount of emotion and craftsmanship in each piece of work.

What are you working on now? What are your hopes for the future?

I am studying human anatomy, working with metals, and continuing to draw and paint consistently. My desire for the future is to hopefully own my own studio and be able to make work full-time for the public.

What has been your biggest art success since studying in Rome?

My biggest success since studying in Rome has been an increase in enthusiasm towards my studies at school.

What is your advice for future RAP students?

Stay for the full eight weeks and push yourself to take advantage of the professors, the new friendships you will develop, and all of the sites and wonders of Rome! There are times where you will be exhausted from the challenge but it’s worth it! A special thank you to all of the professors that took the time to give us individual attention. Without them, there would be no Rome Art Program!
