Alumni Spotlight:

Ewan White

Ewan White (RAP 2018) is a painter based in London. He studied with the New York Studio School in 2019 and graduated with a B.A. at the Slade School of Fine Art in 2021. He studied with the Rome Art Program in 2018 and served as T.A. in 2019.

Rome Art Program: How did your time with RAP influence your work?

Ewan: I hope that I can find a way to make a living from my painting and to keep doing what I love. In the more immediate future, I am currently applying to a few residencies in Europe.

RAP: What has been your biggest art success since studying in Rome?

Ewan: My biggest art success since studying in Rome would probably be going on a four-month exchange from the Slade to the New York Studio School in 2019. This was a fantastic and intense time and has had a profound effect on my work and in the way I think about art in general. Also, in 2019 my painting No. 7 of my family eating an evening meal won the Young Artist Prize in the Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize exhibition at the Mall galleries in London.

RAP: What is your advice for future RAP students?

Ewan: My advice would be to throw yourselves into the classes, and to really allow yourselves the time to appreciate and explore. Take time to wander around aimlessly and find unexpected wonders in the streets and churches.
